A Skinney Issue

I know I havent been on here in a while. Sorry about that… But I just wanted to share something quickly about an issue concerning loose skin.

A lot of our clients have made amazing physical changes regarding weight loss) before, during or aside from our help) and some have expressed concern about loose skin. I was going through the coaches community on the Poliquin Site and came across this piece of advise which I think is really good involving the subject.

How to lose loose skin:

Gotu Kola Px – 2 caps 3x/day

Lean Legs 2.0 – 1 pump per area, once in the morning and once again 45min pre-workout

You can also add aloe vera gel or lotion throughout the day.

Do that consistently for 6 months – it takes time to do it the natural way.

Hydration and electrolytes help speed things up.

That is it in a nutshell outside of surgery. Of course this is assuming you are following a smart nutritional plan. Things like alcohol, sugar, inflammation, bad gut lining will also cause problems or slow reactions to the advice above. Closing the Cleanse

Hey Folks!

I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to quickly update on life post-cleanse.

I learned a bunch while on this thing. How the body survives and operates, how I can handle doing something like this, how I react and detox to my environment. It was a very interesting learning experience. A lot of people were screwing with me while I was on it, teasing and offering things that werent on the protocol, either on purpose or accident. Nothing that I do while they take on a challenge. Some people started off that way and became very supportive (thank you to those people). Others had really no interest in what I was doing.

Day 5-6 &7 were the most interesting parts of the cleanse. Day 5 was a reality check. I became extremely doubtful in my results and ability to actually see this thing through. So I sat down and had a heart to heart with myself as well as a reality check and a goal assessment (more on that later). This mediation on the current and future state of affairs was crucial for my results and performance.

Day 6: This day really started bringing everything around. The end was near and I started to feel really good. All of the results people have talked about from doing a cleanse like this really started to come to the surface. Everything including my body started to feel natural. I finally lost love handles that I had held since I was 19. Everything started to tighten up and pop. On top of all the aesthetic stuff I started to feel amazing. This is what I had been looking for.

Side note: This night I sat inside an In and Out and watched 2 other clients consume dinner in front of me which consisted of: 2 double-doubles with cheese, protein style and 1 fries animal style. Self control is a muscle and you must use it.

Day 7: This day was my best day. I was feeling and seeing all the positive results. Nothing negative was happening and I started to prepare reintroducing foods back into my system. You have to start light and spend the next few days building up to tolerate foods. You can’t just crash and eat what ever you want because you will shut down or break the system. So I bought probably 8lbs or more of salmon. Wild caught and farm raised. I now have a new found appreciation for salmon and find them to be one of the most precious creatures on the planet.

The difference from wild to farm raised is not night and day but heaven and hell. Wild was a completely different color, cook time, smell, and taste. So much more value, totally worth the money. You get what you pay for.

Side note: This night I watched people eat mexican food and sushi for about 2 hours in front of me. See side note above about self control.

Coming down: Day 8: I forgot how to cook. I cannot understand how people are vegetarians or vegans. Most people were trying to figure out how bad I was craving sweets or desserts during the cleanse – I wasnt – AT ALL. I was craving animals, protein, critters, MEAT. I would have eaten the salmon out of the package. In fact I did about 30mins of research on ‘sushi grade salmon’ before shopping because I didn’t know if I was going to be able to control myself once I woke up on day 8. I cooked it outside, it was glorious. As certain pieces cooked first, I ate them. Burning mouth and all. I don’t get it. I don’t see how people can read falsely reported benefits of those types of eating styles and start or continue to follow them. What is more crazy is that people who do follow those styles of eating complain to me about how bad they feel (physiologically) but still continue to follow them (read/google: definition of insanity). So all day I ate salmon. My favorite color is now red.

Day 9: Today I get to reintroduce birds. I have stalked up.

Notes: I highly recommend people look into doing this, in some way, to rebalance their bodies. This type of cleanse is a complete system reboot. Mental and physical changes occur in super positive ways. It is a “spring cleaning” of all your body’s systems. I cant wait to see what the results are BioSignature wise (consultation tomorrow) and will post those when I get them. Thank you for reading.

Cleansing the Coach

So I have been kind of keeping it under wraps but now its day 3 and I just feel like talking about it.

Tuesday I started a 7 Day Cleanse. The cleanse was designed by Brad Davidson down at Stark Training (starktraining.com) and set up for me about 3 weeks ago. It took some time on my part to schedule everything, order and commit to the 7 days. For those who are freaking out this is no way in hell a cabbage diet or cookie diet or the other one where you drink lemon juice, chili pepper and maple syrup (I dont bullshit and i DO research). To hear it from the educated lips of Poliquin, this is what a real cleanse is:

“Before I even get started, I want to be clear in how I define a cleanse. It is the process of improving or increasing the body’s ability to remove toxins from your internal environment. I’m not talking about colonic therapy and I’m not talking about joining Hollywood celebrities at a posh detox center. A cleanse involves reducing the amount of toxins coming into the body and increasing the amount of toxins leaving the body. Another component of a cleanse is to reduce the amount of toxins your body creates which requires adequate nutritional support.” (link 1)

The cleanse idea of both coaches was originally developed by Dr. Robert Rakowski who holds the following accreditations: DC, CCN, DACBN, DIBAK is a chiropractor, kinesiologist, certified clinical nutritionist, certified BTA instructor, AFMCP graduate, and the clinic director of the Natural Medicine Center in Houston, Texas.

While at Stark Training with Coach Brad he and I went through a long assessment and chat about what has been going on with me and where I want to go (my goals – if you don’t have ‘em, you’re not getting them). It was decided that we should still work on my number 1: hamstrings and number 2: umbilical priorities. I have wanted to do a cleanse since first hearing about them and it was put into action within moments.

The basics of a cleanse are simple:

1) Choose a medical food (similar to a protein shake but more directly geared towards correcting nutritional deficiencies and hormonal problems.)

2) Alternate a veggie (ad libitum) each day for the 7 days. ( I literally at 3.5lbs of broccoli yesterday. It was crazy).

3) Remove all other foods (besides the veggies, everything else is pretty much liquid).

4) Cut all caffeine, sugar, gluten, dairy, wheat, soy etc.

5) There are other directions I am not going to go into because this thing has to be supervised and I don’t want anyone trying to do it on their own.

The cool thing about the cleanse, besides not cooking, drinking delicious shakes, waking up leaner every day, and not paying for coffee is that you can focus on several medical problems at once throughout the cleanse. If you wanted to focus on inflammation and estrogen at the same time, you can. If you wanted to focus on insulin and cortisol on the same time, you can, and so on. The 1st few hours I have to admit I was a little scared. I realized quickly that I couldn’t have solid food, other than veggies, for the next week and that once I bought into this I can’t screw it up. See there are side effects to noncompliance. You have to modify your training because chemical build up can cause health problems, you have to reintroduce foods because just slamming things down can cause health problems, and for all this work you don’t want to screw it up within the first few days. You can not cheat, or you get very sick.

If you’re busy it makes everything easier. Sitting around all day wondering if you should have another shake isn’t the best idea (liquid food or solid its just not good). Meals are easy, results are easier. It takes a second to abandon coffee and sweets but the commitment factor is the best part. Knowing your committed, staying with the commitment and getting benefits from it are awesome. This is like the Whole30 but minus 3 weeks and a whole lot more intense. You can screw up on the W30 and start again (not recommended), this bad boy though, there is no going back. Those who did the W30 recently have been huge sources of inspiration. So thanks guys!

Now that I am 3 days into it I am feeling really good about everything. This is the most and longest I have eaten veggies for, I am being pretty regimented and I am feeling great. No blood sugar spikes, no getting tired after meals, no concern about eating out. Thank goodness I have done intermittent fasting before because it sets you up for this. I have 4 days left and will keep you guys updated along the way as well as what exactly improved with BioSignature results as well as pictures!

Amazing new Client RESULTS!

 

Hey party peeps!

So I have some great new client results to post.

The lucky lady who owns these results will not let me give out a lot of information about her just yet but is kind enough to let me post her BioSignature Results in the mean time. I hope that within the next month we can post fantastic pictures of her. (The picture to the left is not her just in case you were wondering. I knew I would get you to click the link though because you wanted to check out “dat ass!” ;)

The only changes I have made with this client are:

1) Removal of all environmental estrogens (to best ability)

2) Diet

Here is the current outcome:

Previous Visit:

Weight: 125lbs  — BF%: 12.8 #1 Priority: hamstrings #2 Priority: Supra Iliac: 17

Most Current Visit:

Weight: 121.2lbs — BF% 10.2 #1Priority Hamstrings 19.2 (First testing was 46) #2 Priority: Supra Iliac: 8.2

This client is doing amazing and in fact way more than what I ask for. She is serious about getting results. Realistically I expect clients to adhere to changes at about 75-80% compliance. I could never expect 100% compliance, it’s just impossible. For some strange reason people think I live 100% paleo. First off: its impossible – 2nd (off?) I wouldn’t even want to.

This clients goal is to get about 8.2% bodyfat and see where she is at that point. She is awesome to work with. Someone I consider to be an “ideal client.” She asks very good questions, stays on top of me and her progress, constantly reports back to me and updates the situation, sticks to what she says and is honest with everything. Most importantly she is happy. She smiles, says wonderful things, has a great outlook and laughs constantly. That is awesome to work with. She makes my job feel worth while and amazing. Even when things are going bad or not as good as they could be she presents this outlook. I couldn’t ask for more.

She thanked me for helping her, I immediately thanked her for helping me.

Win-win.

BioSignature: Clients + Results

So a few clients have really taken charge and have adopted BioSignature Modulation. As problem areas are different per individual so are the solutions. Below are some of the success clients have had by using BioSignature Modulation with me. The great thing is BioSignature, like Crossfit, can be scaled to individual goals, time, abilities and compliance. The more compliant you are, the more likely you are to see results (as with anything in life). A lot of people new to BioSignature thought that a one-time sit down consult would suffice to wrap all of their history, concerning, questions, problems everything else they are going through up into an easy-to-swallow remedy. I wish!! :) If this was the case I’m sure I would be able to perfect the system and live comfortably in Hawaii (don’t worry, I’m working on it). As of right now though BioSignature may take you through a few transitions as you get closer and closer to your goals.

The main bumps in the road tend to come from A) wanting too much knowledge and B) Not following through with simple changes.
It is difficult for any coach to make life style changes if the client is unwilling or unable to change even small daily/weekly habits.

Here is a good quote: “If you want things in your life to change: you are going to have to change things in your life.”

Point in case: low compliance or inability to follow through with simple tasks:

Example: I assign client homework of reading an article on estrogens in the environment. 1 week goes by and the client lists reasons A-X why they have been unable to read the article. Then the client expresses frustration to me that saying they aren’t getting results. Well yes! Of course! We haven’t changed anything. I didn’t even ask you to change anything I actually just wanted you to read a small blog post and it still stands as an uncompleted task.

Other clients though have followed through with homework assignments perfectly, some actually even better than I could ask for. For them, they got results. Here are some examples:

Client: Fit Chick:

First BioSig Numbers: Weight 141.7lbs – BodyFat%: 19.9 – Lean Muscle Mass: 113.5lbs

#1 & 2 Priorities: 1) Hamstrings: 29.4 2) Supra Iliac: 23.2

15 days later:

Weight: 145 – BodyFat%: 17.7 – Lean Muscle Mass 119.4lbs

#1&2 Priorities: 1) Hamstrings: 21.6 2) Supra Iliac: 18.2

Notes: So this Fit Chick dropped about 2.2% bodyfat – leaned out both her #1&2 priorities pretty well. This is with ONLY making dietary changes. We did not work on the Estrogen issue or any hormonal issue. In fact, every body site related to nutrition, after the 15 days, lost body fat.

Client: Rowski:

This is a male client who did personal training with me for 3 days a week while doing (not recommended or encouraged by me, several long distance and sprint training sessions the other days.) There were some conflicts we were  unable to avoid as far as training, desire and supplies but this client’s goal was to add-on as much muscle, weight and strength as possible in about 4 weeks.

Results: His body fat went up only 1.4% (10.9-11.5%) while I increased his carb, calorie, protein and fat consumption majorly (so much his family was complaing about how much he was cooking and eating) – his scale weight went up 5lbs but his lean muscle mass increased 3.3% in about 3 weeks (that’s only 9 workouts). He was dramatically stronger once he finished training over winter break and has been better in his sport ever since.

These are just a few of the results BioSignature Modulation has achieved for clients who put in the work and completed tasks. They came, learned, worked and improved to achieve results. Some people just come for results and have no interest in learning. Other people come for a free ride. Pictures are coming. I will also be sharing more of my own results with BioSignature soon. Does BioSignature Even Work??!?!

So long time - no post. Where have you been?!?

Update:

I expanded my education a pretty fair amount - it keeps growing – new clients came into my life – I launched this puppy (this website) as a place to post information and explain exactly what I do – some clients left – some clients are doing amazing – more knowledge confused me and us - I backed off of everything to get myself situated between what I practice and preach. That’s it in a really wound up nutshell.

Of recent I have been focusing more and more on clients goals. I would hear them out, suggest what they should and shouldnt do only to find out that weeks later it had all fallen to pieces. They weren’t doing anything prescribed (same as the workouts ;) , werent getting results, not wanting to keep me as a Coach and didnt really know that they need to be in such tight contact with me in order to improve. A lot of clients did the intital consult but that is only the starting and suggesting point needed to move on and get Coached. I cant teach everything and provide everything in one 1 hour session. It takes time, dedication, goal and will power, motivation….kind of. Really people meet with me, learn some stuff, change 1 or 2 things and see results. But clients do need to come in and get the knowledge. Teachers didnt come to you preschool through college. You have to go to them if you want to learn.

I was told a fact by Dr. Berardi that 50% of all people who take a LIFE SAVING medication (like for diabetes, or cancer etc) DONT actually take it as prescribed or at all. So if people are only half concerned with treating a disease that will kill them, I had to rethink about how serious they would be about better sleep, losing weight, not being depressed and getting pull ups.

So I changed the path and the game plan. Rather than just racking up clients (which was getting kind of easy) I wanted to focus more on the results of the clients I had and their goals (Not so easy – and why I dropped off this website. I started writing for Robb Wolf ( http://www.robbwolf.com/2011/11/23/its-in-the-blood-when-it-rains-it-pours/)(http://www.robbwolf.com/2011/12/29/hormones-disrupted-decadent-depraved/) I started giving out information and appointments for free and I started to work more on my own results. I have heard from some major athletes, celebs and other BioSignature Practitioners about how well BioSignature worked for them but I hadn’t really seen it in myself or in my clients.

So I did the smart thing (which was actually suggested by Coach Poliquin) – while reading a short, amazing Q&A book by Coach Poliquin called 175 Tips to Improve your Training and Quality of Life I came across Tip 102 and it jumped out at me and slapped me in the nose, it says:

Tip 102: Invest in the right Education or Hire the right trainer to help achieve your goals.

So I searched the interweb and was referred to Brad Davidson of Spark Training down in Irvine. Simply put, Coach Brad is AMAZING and I am actually trying to convince him to guide me in health and business practices because the system he has developed works extremely well and I love it. I only spent a short time with Coach Brad but learned a whole lot. I came back and started applying simple things I picked up and had been learning the entire weekend I was down in downtown Disney.

Here are the BioSignature results I have seen with certain clients:

Client Me:

Original BioSignature Score (BioSig scores are the places you hold fat on your body through a very smart computer program which rates issues as Priorities #1-12. 1 means it needs to be worked on 1st and right away before anything else can change. It has been interesting that with several clients I have only worked on with nutrition only - the priorities and places on the body that hold fat strictly due to dietary factors have shown reduced scores once implementing dietary changes only.)

Here were my original scores and #1 and 2  priorities:

Date: 10/11/11

Weight: 184lbs            #1 Priority: Hamstrings: 22.4                  #2 Priority: Umbilical: 14.2

Body Fat%: 12.8%                    Lean Mass Lbs: 160.4

In December I ran an Estrogen Protocol for a month and made some training adjustments. Here is what my new scores are:

Date: 1/13/2012

Weight: 187.4                              #1 Priority: Umbilical 12.2                     #2 Hamstrings 13

BodyFat%: 9.9                            Lean Masslbs: 168.9

BreakDown of Results:
So what the hell does this all even mean?!? Well, in short, BioSignature works! And pretty freaking well. BUT (no big butt) You have to actually do it. My results above basically state that:

1) My scale weight increase 3.4lbs total.

2) My muscle mass increased 8.5lbs

3) My bodyfat% dropped 3.1%

4) Hamstrings dropped 9.4cm

5) Umbilical dropped 2cm and became my number 1 priority.

Overall I feel GREAT! I have seen huge improvements in the gym, the mirror, wods, brain function, mood and some other goodies(private). I myself have been skeptical because my results at first were mixed and then slow until I finally buckled down and committed to an actual plan rather than “winged it.” As Wendy has said “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”
With some new clients there has been a big misconception that The Basics (more info found here: http://www.charlespoliquin.com/ArticlesMultimedia/Articles/Article/758/Stay_Healthy_Vitamins_101.aspx)

will solve all the problems. They wont. They will definitely help in a lot of fantastic ways but what The Basics do is prep you to perform a Protocol. The Protocol is what fixes your problem (as long as your ducks are in a row). Even a half assed protocol still gets pretty good results (as was my first experience and also Heather’s).

My next Protocol actually involves a 7 Day Cleanse that Coach Brad has designed for me. I am pretty excited about it as I have been extremely interested in doing one since I first read about Coach Poliquin’s experience with Cleanses(btw DO NOT confuse this with other bullshit cleanses you have heard about. This is no cookie diet, I have a lot of food to eat and a lot of good healthy things to get in to my system.) I will be posting my experience of that, day-to-day when I start it this sunday. Later I am going to talk about the progress and results of other BioSignature clients. Stay tuned.
